Mask
This series was created several years ago. I came across several masks made for a Greek play (I don't remember which one) and decided to do a series asking some of the questions about what it is to be a human being—especially a gendered human being and the relationship of two oppositely gendered individuals. Some of the masks are human, some animal. That humans are animals is not in question. Many cultures have animal totems. Many times they are part of a ritual. This series is intended to use the ritual of humans and animals to express the common nature of all living beings.
We all wear masks. None of us is truly able to know who we are without some hiding behind the various masks we create. Two friends Elizabeth and Andrew liked the concept and helped with the images. |
