Dr. Greg's Historical & Modern Photography

Color Emusions One

This series began on the Isle of Iona in the Hebrides. There it is windy and I started to think of how one could photograph wind. A little later in France I saw some paintings that gave me a clue—what if I photographed wind by multiple photographs on the same piece of film! I used the three emulsions on color film by splitting them using sharp-cut filters. There was a serendipitous quality to the experience that took some of the control of the exposure out of my hands and yet, at the sametime, gave me yet another possibility for creating and image. I began to see that photographs didn't just have to record what was in front of the lens.
